About

What is the Walk 4 Hope?

The Walk 4 Hope began in NSW in 2014 and our hope for 2024 is to make this event happen on a national scale. Isolation is experienced by many people impacted by HD and with this in mind, the walk was created to be inclusive for everyone to take part and to create hope for HD. It is an opportunity for families, friends and colleagues to come together to share their stories and know that they are not alone.

About Huntington’s Australia

Huntington’s Australia is dedicated to improving the quality of life for individuals and families impacted by Huntington’s disease (HD). Through our comprehensive range of services, we strive to raise awareness, advocate for the HD community, and provide vital training and education to caregivers, disability support service providers, allied health professionals and other stakeholders.

Why your support is so important

  • The prevalence of Huntington's disease in Australia is approximately 8.7 per 100,000 people.

  • Each child has a 50% (one in two) chance of inheriting HD from their parent with Huntington’s disease.

  • Huntington’s disease affects an individual’s ability to think, plan, speak, swallow and walk.

  • Huntington's disease typically manifests between ages 35 and 50, and symptoms worsen over a 10 to 25 year period.

How your fundraising helps

All funds raised support Huntington’s Australia in providing support groups; non-clinical counselling; life skills development; youth support; training and education sessions; and assistance with NDIS to people impacted by HD, their families and carers, and to service providers.

We understand that symptoms of HD occur differently for each person and the impact on a person’s quality of life is huge. Therefore, it’s crucial for us to offer supports and services tailored to each person’s needs.

Here are just a few of the ways your fundraising helps make a difference:

Non-clinical counselling

Emotional support, problem-solving skills, personal growth and access to support systems

Education programs
